Stuart makes several ranges of production glass based on natural forms, and a dislike for symmetry. This theme continues into his one-off work where hot forms are twisted and stretched, then cold carved and polished creating vessels reminiscent of the flora and fauna of the ocean.
Stuart studied glass making at Sunderland Polytechnic where he gained his BA Hons. Degree in Three Dimensional Design (Glass) in 1988. He worked at the International Glass Centre in the West Midlands and then worked as head production maker and designer at a studio factory in the Lake District before returning to Sunderland to teach part time at the University and set up his own business. After 8 years he moved his business to Nottingham where he is still based.
In 1999 the New Glass Magazine selected one of Stuart’s one-off forms in their review of 100 best pieces of glass made in the world that year.
Stuart has exhibited his glass across the UK and in Guernsey and Dubai.
