Davis, Nick

Flying Men
In the late 80’s British Artist Nick Davis trained as an architectural stonemason in Wiltshire, UK. Working as a mason Nick found the materials used at work created great sculptures.
Several commissions for his stone sculptures led to a strong desire to pursue Sculpture as a career.
After moving to London Nick gravitated towards the fine art bronze foundries where he learnt techniques in wax work and metal work. Nick established his first foundry in 1996 casting a number of public and private commissions. The foundry is portable and capable of casting sculpture to any scale on site and as a result Nick has been comissioned for several public appearances demonstrating bronze pours and as Artist in Residence for BNP Paribas in 2003.
Today the focus of Nick’s work is centered on the studio-foundry based in Buckinghamshire producing bronze furniture and sculpture.
“Furniture for me is a natural fusion of all the skills I’ve acquired over the years. A chair for example contains elements of engineering and sculpture.”
People ask Nick if he’s an artist or an artisan, a designer or a maker: “The truth is I see no distinction between them, the process is simply an integral part of the art object.”
