Winter Landscape with Kites
Sue was born in Henley on Thames, spent her childhood in Berkshire and Wiltshire and now lives on the Chiltern Ridge in Buckinghamshire.
A move to Dorset in 1984 introduced her to watercolour painting and a subsequent move to Cyprus inspired her to paint representational images portraying the rocky coastline and the colours of land and sea in the intense Mediterranean light.
Over the years her work has evolved from an exact representation of reality to being more expressive of mood and atmosphere, and more abstract as a result. Sue’s main inspiration comes from landscape and she is fascinated by man’s influence on the land, a recent series of works have been about Iron Age burial sites and hill forts.
Her starting points are usually pen or pencil drawings made on site, with notes on colour, weather and light conditions. She interprets the drawings in watercolour, acrylic, oil and mixed media.
Sue is a member of The West Wycombe Art Group, a regular exhibitor at the Mall Gallery in London and at several locations in Buckinghamshire and surrounding areas.
