Green, Mitzie

Piazza, Rome III
I am an artist working in water colours, acrylics and mixed media using a variety of techniques. My paintings are free-flowing and my current theme is letting go. This is emphasised through a wide range of unusual materials and is reflected in a strong bias towards tactile effects and a sensuous expression where visual dynamics and structure are being explored. My paintings are eye-catching for their vibrant sense of colour and dynamic composition. I use unconventional tools to achieve effects resulting in inimitable playfulness.
I exploit watercolours to the full, taking risks, experimenting and pushing colour to the limits with large fluid washes combined with delicate line work. At other times I prepare my surfaces in an unusual way using a “half ground” for watercolours, which makes a unique surface to work on as it is highly textured, absorbent and unpredictable. It enables me to follow my feelings and paint from memory rather than dictating what I am going to paint. The results are some very subtle passages.
For my acrylic work I prepare a background from different types of paper including newsprint to give me a messy surface to work against. From this mess I establish order and meaning. My subject matter is townscapes, still-life, landscape, flowers and abstract images using vibrant colours. In this I am influenced by the Fauves and Expressionists.
